Claus Peter Schnorr

Claus Peter Schnorr (born 4 August 1943) is a distinguished German mathematician and cryptographer. He received his PhD from the University of Saarbrücken in 1966, and his habilitation in 1970. Schnorr's contributions to the algorithmic theory of randomness include a philophical study of randomness in his book Zufalligkeit und Wahrscheinlichkeit and introduction of several notions of randomness based on Jean Ville's notion of martingale.

Schnorr is currently professor of mathematics and computer science at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe university at Frankfurt. He is also a Distinguished Associate of RSA Laboratories, and a joint recipient of the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize in 1993.
